IPTV Not Working on Firestick? How to Fix It
This page is for a Fire TV Stick where IPTV is already installed and something has stopped behaving. If you have not set it up yet, use the Firestick installation guide instead.
Find your symptom below. Each one lists what is usually behind it, what to do, and how to tell it worked.
Try these two things first
They resolve a surprising share of Firestick problems and take under a minute.
- Restart the device properly. Hold Select and Play/Pause together for about five seconds, or unplug the Firestick for ten seconds. Closing the app is not the same thing — Fire OS keeps it in memory.
- Confirm your subscription is still active. An expired plan produces symptoms that look technical: blank channel lists, login errors, streams that stop mid-programme.
The app will not open, or closes straight away
What you see: the app launches to a black screen and returns to the home screen, or never opens at all.
Likely cause: the Fire TV Stick has very little free memory, and the app cache has grown or become corrupted. A partially completed update can do the same.
Fix: go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications, select your IPTV player, then Clear cache. Restart the Firestick and try again. If it still fails, use Clear data — but note this wipes your saved login, so have your MOM IPTV credentials to hand before you do. Only reinstall as a last resort, following the installation guide.
Check: the app opens to its normal home screen and stays open for a minute without closing.
Your login details are rejected
What you see: an authentication, invalid-user or connection-failed message after entering your details.
Likely cause: in our experience this is almost always a typing error rather than a fault. Fire TV on-screen keyboards make it easy to add a trailing space, miss a character, or get capitalisation wrong.
Fix: re-enter the username, password and server URL from your MOM IPTV activation email by hand rather than pasting. Check three things specifically — the server URL includes its http:// or https:// prefix, there is no space at the end of any field, and the password matches case exactly. Use the Login with Xtream Codes API option rather than a playlist URL where your app offers both. If the details are correct and it still fails, confirm the subscription has not expired.
Check: the app accepts the login and begins downloading the channel list.
Channels will not load, or the list is empty
What you see: you are logged in, but categories are empty or nothing plays.
Likely cause: the content list did not finish downloading, or the app is holding an old cached list.
Fix: most players have a refresh or reload option in their settings — use it and wait for the download to complete without leaving the screen. If the list is still empty, remove the user profile in the app and add it again with the same credentials. On a slow connection the first download can take a few minutes.
Check: categories are populated and a channel opens when selected.
Buffering, freezing or stuttering
What you see: playback pauses to load, freezes for a few seconds, or stutters during live events.
Likely cause: on Firestick this is usually the device or the local network rather than the stream. The Fire TV Stick is a low-memory device and its Wi-Fi antenna is small.
Fix, in the order worth trying:
- Close every other app, then restart the Firestick.
- Connect to your router’s 5 GHz band rather than 2.4 GHz if both are available, or move the Firestick closer to the router.
- Lower the stream quality or switch decoder mode in your player’s playback settings — many players offer both hardware and software decoding, and one often performs better than the other on Fire TV.
- Increase the buffer size in the player settings if it exposes that option.
- Use an Ethernet adapter. On Firestick specifically this makes more difference than on most devices.
- If you are running a VPN, test with it turned off to see whether it is the bottleneck.
Check: a live channel plays for five minutes without pausing to load. If one channel buffers and others do not, the problem is that stream rather than your setup — tell support which channel.
Black screen, or sound with no picture
What you see: the channel appears to open but the screen stays black, sometimes with audio playing.
Likely cause: a decoder mismatch between the stream format and the playback setting in use.
Fix: switch the decoder in your player’s settings — if it is on hardware, try software, and vice versa. Then reopen the channel. If every channel shows a black screen, restart the Firestick before changing anything else.
Check: picture and sound play together on more than one channel.
Audio problems
What you see: no sound, or audio out of sync with the picture.
Likely cause: an audio track or output setting, not the subscription.
Fix: many channels carry more than one audio track — open the audio option during playback and select a different one. For sync problems, restart playback first, then check Settings → Display & Sounds → Audio on the Firestick and try switching Dolby Digital output off.
Check: sound plays in step with the picture on a second channel too.
The TV guide is empty
What you see: channels play, but the EPG shows nothing.
Likely cause: the guide data has not been pulled, which commonly happens when a playlist URL was used instead of the Xtream Codes API login.
Fix: look for an EPG refresh or update option in the player settings and run it. If the guide stays empty, remove the profile and add it again using Login with Xtream Codes API, which pulls channels and guide data together.
Check: programme names and times appear against channels.
It worked yesterday and stopped today
What you see: nothing changed on your side, but the service stopped.
Likely cause: an expired subscription, an app update that reset a setting, or a router change.
Fix: check the subscription status first — it is the most common answer and the quickest to rule out. Then restart the Firestick, and confirm other apps on the device still reach the internet. If only IPTV is affected and your plan is active, contact support.
Check: playback resumes, or you have ruled out your own network and can hand support a clear picture.
What to send support
If nothing above resolves it, contact MOM IPTV support with these details. They remove most of the back-and-forth:
- Your Fire TV model — Stick, Stick 4K, Stick Max or Cube
- The player app you are using
- The exact message on screen, or a photo of it
- Whether it affects every channel or only some — and which ones
- Whether you are on Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and whether a VPN is running
- What you have already tried from this page
Questions people ask about Firestick and IPTV
Why is IPTV not working on my Firestick?
The most frequent causes are an expired subscription, a mistyped server URL or password, and a full app cache on a device with little free memory. Work through the two checks at the top of this page before anything else.
Why does IPTV keep buffering on Firestick?
Usually the device or the local network rather than the stream. Firestick has limited memory and a small Wi-Fi antenna, so closing other apps, moving to the 5 GHz band, lowering stream quality, or using an Ethernet adapter tend to help most.
Why are my channels not loading?
The content list did not finish downloading, or the app is showing a cached copy. Refresh the list from the player settings, and if that fails remove and re-add your profile.
Why does the app freeze or close by itself?
Almost always memory pressure. Clear the app cache, restart the Firestick, and keep other apps closed.
Should I restart my Firestick?
Yes, and it should be your first step. Hold Select and Play/Pause for about five seconds, or unplug it for ten. Closing the app alone does not clear it from memory.
What should I check before contacting support?
That your subscription is active, that the device has been restarted, that your login details match your activation email exactly, and whether the problem affects all channels or just some.
